1300 GTA-R Project

Hi my name is Floris, I am 38 years old an live in The Hague The Netherlands and this is my project.

It's a '70 GT 1300 Junior Scalino, original color AR728 grigio medio metallizzato.
It is a car which has been brought to The Netherlands in 1988, since then the car was partly restored by the PO. Unfortunately the project has come to a stop and since then the car has been stored in a barn.
I am in the progress of rebuiling it to a GTA-R on basis of the original 1300 engine.
Might do some moderate tuning or 1400 bigbore conversion in the future, I saw some nice stuff at Paul Spruel for this. I know this is will not get you the most ecomomic horse power gain, but will be more unique to have a screamer between all the 2.0 conversions you see a lot over here. Looking for tips and comments here...

First priority is to get it partly painted and back on the wheels again.

Currently in the progress of building seat brackets for the Sparco Seats.







After that the car goes back to the bodyshop for the final metalwork.

Good project with a decent intact car. How did you manage to post so many photos at once? The most I usually can do is 4 at a time? How much time has elapsed from purchase to latest photo?

I do not know why you cannot upload more than 4 at a time, maybe because I already had uploaded the pictures to Imageshack and am just posting the links here.
Time from purchase up to now is just over a year, but I have to say that I wasn't able to continiously work on the car. I outsoursed most of the work done so far, basically it was only stripping that I did. I am glad I did choose to outsource otherwise it was not done this good and not within that timeframe.

Okay the Seats are in!
Seats mounted onto Seat brackets and these mounted to sliders and added a cross beam at the rear. Drilled holes in the new floorpanels including backing plates which will be welded in position.

Seats are adjustable in hight length and angle. Sideways small adjustments can still be made by shimming the seat in the bracket.

Right side was the difficult part, she is now free off the door and tunnel in the middle of the car.

Regarding the engine I have started looking for a 2.0 TS-engine. I will probably convert to running on throttle bodies. Proper overhauled 45 Webers (no Spain repro) are probably even expensive and probably not easy to adjust at low revs, so no good for in town drive.
Have already spotted an engine for a good price and have some nice idea's for (I)TB's....

Time for another update, the body is not yet at the bodyshop. I first wanted to finish some things at my own pace.
Cleaned the engine bay by removing some brackets and clamping strips.
Also reinstalled th doors, bonnet and hood. Also GTA grille parts and locks have been ordered.

Bought myself some nice toos to work with.
Polishing machine

Angle grinder and polisher


Lets get started, remove dents and polish some of the Stainless steel parts:




















TS Brembo's fitted and stripped suspension parts ready to be blasted and painted.




Under the impression of you can alway by new: Project Dashboard
Not yet quite satisfied with the result, I currently have taken one stap back in the process.
The various stages are still visable in the dashboard, this was done deliberately to see what is working and what is not. The "tits" side needs to undergo a few steps.

Great work - car seemed to be pretty solid to start with.

Looks like the PO had fitted a 1750 dash.

The 1970 drop nose 105s had a 1750 style dash standard.

I am restoring the same car,which happens to have an Australian compliance plate

As giulia_veloce explained the 1970 step nose does have the titties dash as is is using various parts of the 1750.

To quote wikipedia:
In 1968, concurrently with the replacement of the Giulia Sprint GT Veloce by the 1750 GTV, the GT 1300 Junior was revised with many of the new parts from the 1750 GTV. This included the dashboard, the suspension and the new wheel size of 5˝ × 14J instead of 4˝ × 15J. This revised GT 1300 Junior, however, retained the early "step-front" body style, which, interestingly, makes it the most mechanically refined production "step-front" model. Another intriguing detail is that, just as on the 1750 GTV, the remote release for the boot (trunk) lid, located on the inside of the door opening on the B-post just under the door lock striker, was moved from the right hand side of the car to the left hand side. The location of this item was always independent of whether the car was left hand drive or right hand drive. This series of GT 1300 Junior was the only model with the step-front bodyshell to have this item mounted on the left hand side. All other step-front models - Giulia Sprint GT, Giulia Sprint GT Veloce, and early GT 1300 Junior with flat dashboard - featured this item on the right hand side.
