Croatian gearbox

I thought Forum members might be interested in my bad luck/good luck story concerning my 1962 Guiletta spider Veloce.
Earlier this month I took part in a 2,000 mile European trip with the Giulietta Register.
After about 800 miles of wonderful driving (including the Grossglockner Pass), on the beautifully scenic Croatian coast road, I ground to a halt with gearbox problems.
I thought a recovery trailer back to the UK would be required.
My car was transported to Zadar, to the garage of Arman Bogdanic. Arman has a huge amount of old new stock Alfa parts and in two days totally rebuilt my gearbox.
I was absolutely amazed, and very grateful.
All internal parts were replaced as the old ones were totally wrecked due to lack of oil (most of which is now under my carpets!).
I was able to complete the remaining 1,200 miles of the tour (which eventually went through 10 countries).

Wow, so I assume the oil siphoned out through the cupped plates around the shift lever?

Arman told me that there were two problems.
An incorrect or faulty top seal, and plastic circlips instead of metal ones.
Apparently you can’t get the correct metal circlips any longer - but plastic ones aren’t strong enough.
