@ Alex : don't tell anyone, in my old stock ....

@ Uncle : maybe, why the right part was OK and the left one, no ? Same parts, same supplier, same shims... but maybe a mistake of assembly from us.

Chris, in love with Alfa from...'68, but it wasn't always reciprocal !

Yep, there are enough variations to require a different load of shims. The best solution is not mess with the hard seat and reuse the old one unless you can clearly see a wear pattern. . The failure is usually attributed to the ball being bent. It the stem isn't bent a little scuffing from dirt shouldn't hurt anything as long as there are no raised burrs with can be polished with fine sand paper ....to take out the roughness but leave the scars alone. They just hold more grease like the slits and dimples in bronze bushings. Of course it goes without saying any "wobble" in the joint would require a new ball and a trial fitting as you go. It sounds like you got lucky on the other side. Luck trumps all other correctness.
