Input Shaft Play

Hi,

I've rebuilt about 5 transmissions and each one has some play in the input shaft. The only real adjustment to take this out seems to be replacing the needle bearing between 3rd/4th gear where the shafts meet and possibly the case bearing.

How much play is too much here?

Thanks.

Play

It should have very little. If the end of the input moves over 1/32", both input bearing & the small needle bearing inside 4th need to be replaced.. Put the input shaft in an empty case and see how much play is just in the input bearing..Side play also reflects wear and radial play..
