layshaft Front bearing - washer or no?

Hi all. Finishing up the rebuild of trani for my '70 GTV. This is a later tramsnission that uses stake nuts on either end of the layshaft as opposed to earlier transmissions that use the plain nut and tab washer. On the rear bearing for the layshaft there is a thick washer ( about 4mm thick). My question is - Is there a washer that goes in front of the stake nut on the FRONT bearing side of the layshaft?

Looking through the bagged and tagged parts from dissasembly I can't seem to find any washer that is appropriate. Meaning either A.) I lost it, or B) There is no washer for this bearing. I'm leaning toward B because I'm pretty fastidious when it comes to cataloging and storing parts. Also, I had a friend look at a spare layshaft who tells me he sees no washer on that front bearing. This seems odd to me, and I'm hoping one of you knowledgeable folk can steer me in the right direction. If there is a washer, it would be more like a shim becuase it would need to be no thicker than about 1mm. Thanks!

From memory there is one to take up space between the bearing race and where threads end so the nut locks the bearing race to the shaft. It is not necessary IF the nut can be torqued tightly to the race....
