filling a tranmission through the top (shifter area)

Did I read somewhere that people had filled their transmission through the top where the shifter comes out? My interior is apart and this might be easy if this is an OK way to do this?

Garage
easy

That's how I filled the gearbox in my Spider after I rebuilt it and bolted it back up to the engine. I just shoved the tip of a plastic funnel down into the tower as it sat exposed in the cabin, laid an old towel around it (in case of drips) and then poured in the Redline.

If the console is out and the shift arm boots are off, it's much easier to refill the gearbox by pouring through the shifter opening than by trying to get the gear oil in through the fill plug hole.
