Plastic wire

I am considering changing the stock L-jet cams to a combination of a C&B intake and keeping the stock L-jet for the exhaust. I have read of a "plastic wire" technique for checking piston to valve clearance. In the past I have used play doh fr this purpose and I recall it works ok. The idea of plastic wire sounds great, but when I search it I am unable to locate anything resembling photos/sketches/etc. I am about to try a piece of nylon tie strap. Also, do I need to be concerned with spring binding? C&B cam is 10.9 lift

thank you

I ran 10.9 C&B's in a Spica head with stock springs and no head modifications.

I use a large Zip tie with a thickness of .050" to check intake valve to piston clearance and two if them tied together to check the exhaust. Your clearance will depend upon cam timing. You should be able to use 101 LC on the intake and you may be able to get away with 98. That is when checking the clearance is important.
