pre 74 exhaust manifold in an S3 question.

I have a 1987 Spider with stock exhaust ( Catalytic etc.)
The #4 pipe in the exhaust manifold has a crack.
I would like to swap the manifold for either a pre-74 or the one used in the 90's Spiders.

Questions:
1) Which one is the better of the two?
2) Will either or one of them FIT with no modifications to the rest of the exhaust. Should I expect any interference with other components.

I would appreciate some pointers.
Thanks

The earlier 2-piece exhaust manifold requires the matching front pipe section. It will NOT match up to your current system. Can't comment accurately on the S4 manifold.

We recently put an early type cast iron header in a S3. It requires the early downpipe, which you will need to modify to take the oxygen sensor.
