64 Sprint gt generator and regulator
Hi I will be rebuilding the electrics in my car it has the original stock 1600 engine with a Bosch generator and regulator. My question is can the regulator be changed to something more modern while I retain the original generator? I think I had heard there is a better one that is not electro mechanical ?TIA

Thanks Alphil, this looks like what I can use, I will check it out and report after. The old generator electrics leave a bit to be desired but I want to avoid conversion to alternator at this stage. The Dynator would be nice but it is pricey and I need to do larger ticket items first like body work and paint. Bosch make good parts so this regulator should be a quality item.

This is the one I bought for my '63 Giulia. It's the direct Bosch replacement for the old electromechanical regulator.

2191 BOSCH Voltage Regulator - 12 Volt

The ones alphil linked to have basically the same updated guts as this one, but they have the old-style casing so they look original. If you don't care about original looks you can save a bunch of money as the new looking one is only $33.

Tom what has your experience been like with this type of regulator? any different to the old type? I will probably get the unit with the old style casing even though it is more bucks guess that's the price for appearance! the one that is deemed the stock one with new internals is rated at 25 amps is there any benefit in going higher? or is that going to cook the electrics?

The one I linked to has been working fine for me for years. Dunno about changing the amperage rating.

In my experience the electrical demands of a Giulia are pretty limited anyway.
