Ok, this week we're playing with the wiring. Trying to get all the lights to work.

This box makes noises as soon as I connect the battery. What is it? The flasher relay?

Here's some extra bonus electrical bits installed by the PO. The black box is a high tech quartz digital clock! The other thing is... looks like two capacitors wired together. Not sure.

Think I found a $10 direct replacement for the flasher relay. Its a 4 pole flasher relay with 49/49a/31/C2 markings on it, with the stock one having 49/49a/31/KBL. Made by Tridon.

if the two red things labeled like 1000mF or uF or some similar , yes it will be capacitors. If not, I guess they are old NiCad batteries, probably for an instrument's inside memory, perhaps for the quartz showed clock. Get of all of these things!

Oh I did. I'm tracking down a problem where a blow a fuse everytime I turn on the parking lights. Those two things were soldered to the fuse block, so I snipped them off. There's an electric tach mounted on the dash, and that's still soldered to the fuse block in a ungainly manner. I'll wire that up appropriately once I figure out what's trying to let all the smoke out of the wires.

seems you have a trouble there. To figure out what is going on I suggest to de-wire anything not original-stock and then I guess you can simply follow the proper diagram to see and solve the problem. Any photo of the mess?

So, I'm back. And back into the wiring. Now, on to this mess...

It looks like xmas tree light wiring was used to connect the switches.. Awesome.

Floor looks pretty darn solid - you might have a keeper. But that's some wacky wiring there to be sure. Might want to just yank the whole harness out and start fresh. I think complete harnesses are available fairly reasonable.

Good luck!

Yeah, I really don't have much to complain about. There is some rust to the rockers, but everything else is in ok shape.

The flasher? Not sure. It did once when I was wiggling wires around. Other times it flashed like crazy and wouldn't shut off no matter where I moved the TS stalk.

More things to clean up...

Good thing I don't depend on this as a daily driver!

Suggest you get some rust protection into this car asap, looks like a nice find ... and then yes you might be able to continue this form of restoration.

Best of luck
Pete
