Cool 1979 Alfa Romeo spider

I have been experiencing an in-frequent ignition problem where the key doesn't seem to engage the motor. When I turn the key,I get silence. After leaving it for a while, the ignition will engage and the car starts. Is there someone who can help me with this issue? Gilbert from Canada

Hi, you need to remove the signal wire to the starter, put a test light on it and have some one turn the key to start mode a bunch of times. The light should light up every time. If this is the case the problem may be the starter solenoid. Of course when checking any electrical stuff make sure the battery is at full charge and all battery connections are tight and grounds are tight. If the light does not light up every time the problem is further back like relay if equipped or starter switch. Cheers Neil.
