1982 Alfa Spider Aux Fan test procedure?

I hope this is not a stupid question, but I want to be sure about myself. I am dismantling an '82 Spider parts car at this time and have removed the a/c condensor and aux cooling fan. This fan looks similiar to some of the Bosch fans that were on BMW and Mercedes of that era. Can this fan be tested by using two jumper wires directly to a 12V car battery? The reason I ask is that the fan does not respond to this test. Before I assume it is bad, is there any type of voltage resistor that is involved on these?

I made a costly mistake on my 1990 300 SEL Mercedes. The fans are resisted and will not respond directly to a 12 volt battery. Fans were okay, the resistor was shot. I just want to be sure this is not the case on this setup. If there is a "resistor", what is the procedure to test once removed from car?
