Post AROSC June 2010 Buttonwillow Event

AROSC will be running a track event at Buttonwillow on June 4 & 6, 2010. Because we are running with NCRC, there will be some significant difference in the way things will be done. Here's a partial list:

1. There will be a 2 HOUR ENDURO on Saturday. It will take place at the end of the day after the normal run group sessions are complete. We will need 15 entries in order to run this event but the price per vehicle is very reasonable. Enduro and Race Groups will have combined practice sessions on Saturday.

2. Run groups will be differ from our norm. They will be:
a) Driving School (abbreviated 1 day school, SAT only, not like a normal AROSC School). This is mandatory for people with no track experience. People running for a 2nd day can sign up for Solo.
b) Solo/TT Group for people with 1 to 7 days experience. Passing will be allowed only on specified straights and only with a point-by.
c) Point By/TT for people with 8 to 20 days of track experience. Passing will be allowed anywhere on the track but only with a point-by.
d) Open Passing/TT for people with >20 days track experience or with racing experience. Passing will be allowed anywhere but this is not a race so common courtesy is expected.
e) Race, this will be that same as our normal Race Group.
f) Endruo, SAT only, for people who can run in Race Group.

3. Cars in groups labeled "TT" will be timed if they have transponders and we have the transponder numbers.

4. Factory 3-point seat belts will be acceptable for all but Race and Enduro for cars newer than 1999 which are running in stock form and using street tires. "Stock" means no engine mods between the throttle body inlet and the exhaust manifold. Suspension mods are OK but tires must have a ware index of 200 or higher.

5. We will be instituting a "self-tech" format in place of our usual tech inspection. Details on this will be posted by May 1.

I'll be in with my new racier Super. I think I'm on the cusp of Point By/Open Passing TT.

I don't expect our 240z to be ready, but we will be there as support for others.

The list of things to fix before we will be track ready are:
Rebuild tranny.
Replace rear-end.
Fix brakes.
Install racing seats and re-think seat belts.

PS:
I like the new style run-groups. Maybe we can adopt them as permenent rules after this event.

Both Colin and I will be there in race group, and we will enter one car in the enduro.

Wow, Colin didn't sell his car after all. Headgasket all fixed I hope.

Jes,

Is Jonas coming? Ali wants to go.

Yes, I assume Jonas is coming - bringing the PlayStation again?

I think it would be a big mistake of Colin to sell that car, and judging from his efforts going into selling it, at some level, he must know...

Oh, and yes, from what I hear, no more headgasket issues come BW. With a bag of new tricks to his car I understand it may just be the fastest Alfa!

Here's where registration stands at the moment:

SAT SUN
Group Reg Max Reg Max (Reg = people already registered)
School 15 25 - -
Solo 30 30 26 55 (there are two Solo gps on SUN)
Point-by 35 35 26 35
Open Pass 20 40 16 40
Race 5 - 6 -
Enduro 4 - - -

So, Solo and Point-By are full on Saturday but there is still room elsewhere.

Oh, we need 15 entries in Enduro in order to run it.

Sorry if this is hard to read. It's the best I seem to be able to do with this editor.

If we want to do a time trial which group would we enter? Will we get timed laps in Open Pass?

We will be timing cars with transponders in Solo, Point-By and Open Pass groups as noted on the second page of the entry form.

A couple of comments:

1) At NCRC's request, we will be including all laps on Sunday in establishing our TT results. This concept has been discussed in this forum before. Now we'll get to try it and see how it works.

2) Solo Group is for fairly inexperienced drivers and consequently, the passing rules are restrictive. At the same time, there will be fewer cars on track than in groups with less restricted passing rules.

3) In the Open Passing Group there may be up to 40 cars on track at once but, because passing is unrestricted, traffic should be less of an issue than in groups with more restricted passing rules.

It should be interesting.

TT and passing

Let me add that we use some specific rules regarding passing:

With us the passing flag is NOT an advisory flag but rather it is a mandatory flag.
Meaning if you're shown the passing flag and by the next couples of turns ( or passing zones for limited passing group), you have not let the car(s) behind you pass you, you WILL get a black flag.
We also have a specific rule to adress the situation when a couple of friends/drivers are playing together, just have your high beams on, that will tell the corner workers that you're just playing and you will not get black flagged.

Also, we reward skills, not horsepower so, if you drive a 800HP Monster Car and you're show the passing flags in any turns because you have a little 150HP Miata behind you, you have to let him pass you.( and no stepping on the gas at the same time than pointing him by).
I don't want to hear that your lap times are faster or you will loose him in the straights

One last point, in the Point-by group ( passing ANYWHERE) with a point-by, you're expected to give and take ( as long that it is safe) point-by in turns.
If you're not confortable passing or being passed in (safe) turns, this group is not for you and you should sign-up in solo.

These numbers are baffling. Does this mean that there are ZERO spots on saturday for TT ? I already sent in my form. Am I screwed now ???

Bruce/Luc

I just looked at the NCRC website. I applied for point by both days, but you can just put me in the open passing group if that is what it will take to get me in both days.

You need to talk with Terry Watson. He handles the registration details.
