AROSC Time Trial, Apr 18 & 19, 2009

We are holding a Time Trial at the Auto Club Speedway (formerly California Speedway) in Fontana on April 18 & 19. This is a parking lot event with the "track" outlined with cones. The course will be a bit over a mile in length and have a couple decent straights for passing. Because of the venue, we have been able to reduce the entry fee so hopefully, a few who otherwise might not be able to attend, will be able to make it. We held a TT here a few years back and everyone who can said they had a great time.

Please note, there will be no race at this event.

Bruce, will there be a lunchtime driving session for street vehicles?

It may also be worth mentioning that this is a great opportunity to try out time trailing for the first time since the speeds will be much lower than at the big track at Willow Springs or Buttonwillow where AROSC typically run their events. It is a great transition from the school at the Streets of Willow to big/full track time trailing.

This one I'm coming to, after missing the Willow Springs event. I just made a motel reservation at the Comfort Inn.

And Bruce, I still have the tech sheet that was done for me for the Willow Springs event, can I use it for this event?

As long as you haven't done anything major to the car it should be fine. BTW, I'm really looking forward to seeing this car for the first time! See you there.

Sorry, no lunchtime Intro Group session. We're hoping to do some instructor training things and don't think we'll have the manpower for it.

I was told AROSC may allow cars with OEM seatbelts to run at this event. I don't see that on the flyer so I'm guessing it didn't happen.

As I now have a motorhome to bring to the track, I see that there is no camping at the teack. Where are the other RVers staying? It would be nice to all be together. I will be there one way or another. The last time it was a blast in the rain, but rain or shine it will be a fun event.

Did this get addressed? Will AROSC allow cars with stock belts and no fire extinguisher? Convertibles allowed? I have friends interested in running their stock vehicles.

We plan to create a DE (Driver Education) Run Group but we're still working on the details. It won't be in place for the April event at Fontana but we hope it will be by September when we're at Willow. I'll post an announcement with all the details when we have everything sorted out.

A couple notes are in order, however.

1) The cars will need to go through a safety inspection similar to what we do now and the drivers will need to ware the same kind of clothing TT drivers ware.

2) Street belts (3-point minimum) in good condition will be acceptable.

3) Fire extinguishers will not be required.

4) Convertibles will need roll bars but factory bars on newer (we're working on exactly what that means) cars will be acceptable.

5) Timing will not be allowed in this group and new (to AROSC) drivers will need to earn a "Solo Permit" before being allowed to drive alone on the track.

That's all I can/will say for the moment. If people ask questions at this point, I'll simply refer them to this statement. As I noted above, when we have all the details worked out, I'll post an announcement.

Bruce,

I was just browsing the AutoClubSpeedway webpage, and noticed that there is a big drag racing event the same weekend that we are there, and they are directed to use gate #6, coming and going.

Which gate are we suppose to use, and what parking lot are we going to be using?

Their website says that the Alfa Club is using Lot 12. Their maps say to use Gate 5 Green Zone for Lot 12.

Roy,

These directions are for NASCAR races only. Not all gates are open the rest of the time. I'm sure we're suppose to use gate #1, but I want to be sure. But knowing the location, lot 12, is a big help, now I don't have to ask at the gate where to go.

I just sent my application, so I'll be there.
Also noticed that it will rain during next week. May be the weather will be stable enough to give us some nice rain for the TT. That would be superb!
I can't wait to hit some cones...
I remember that last time I went, I was able to leave my little racer at the lot overnight, even though there was no overnight parking. A little risky, but...
