Insight into registering an older Alfa in Maine?

Does anyone have any experience with getting an older (1967) Alfa registered and inspected in Maine? How rigorous is the inspection for older cars? Do I have to have all floor pan rust (holes) repaired? Are they going to stress the front end looking for problems?

Here in NH, as long as the important stuff (suspension, brakes, lights, tires, drivetrain) is worthy, it will pass. They realize that you may only drive it less than 5000 mi per year, so most will turn a blind eye to small holes in floor boards, etc.

new initiatives in Maine

Thanks for your reply. What do they say about NH - Live rust free or die?

Maine issues a new set of inspection instructions starting on 12/15/06. I have noticed much more rigorous inspection of commercial vehicles, with an emphasis on replacing dry looking (but functional) rubber hoses in the brake system and fuel system.

What would have sailed through last year gets snagged this year.

My car passed a Massachusetts inspection last year, but I would like to keep and use it in Maine this year.

"antique" in Maine

I just found a page in the State site that indicates "Antique" vehicles are exempt from inspection. The car can't be your only mode of transportation and must be in good working order. Bonus: reg fee is just $15!

I register 80's Alfas {GTV-6's} all the time and inspections are not very bad. They don't like holes, ALL lights must work and they usually jack up the front to check ball joints and wheel bearings. The Antique thing is the way to go though.
