Alfas at the Moodus Jazz Festival
There's an event on Sunday, July 31 that might be of interest to y'all, especially y'all in the southern parts of our region. David Yager, President of AROC-CT, sent the message below to AONE -- it's a pre-1980 car show in conjunction with a trad jazz festival down toward the Connecticut shore -- what fun! (Since I was a trad jazz cornet player in years gone by and know many of the people in the bands that will be performing, this is of special interest to yours truly.) The information attachment that David refers to is attached here as a PDF file.
The Great CT Traditional Jazz Festival in Moodus is again inviting people with old cars to attend on Sunday, July 31st, and receive free admission for the driver, a guest, and kids. This is a great deal, as adult tickets are $25 at the gate that day. Any car 1980 or earlier qualifies; cars will be directed to a meeting place on the grounds at 10:15 AM (though you can arrive earlier); there will be a parade of the autos through the festival, and then you're free to enjoy the bands and the food for the rest of the day. (I haven't attended for the last couple years, but when I did, there was also special reserved parking on the grounds for the antique cars following the parade -- I assume that will continue to be the case).
If any of you are interested in meeting somewhere before the event to drive there together, please respond with a "reply to all" and the town you'd be coming from, to help determine where a central point to meet may be or, if people are spread out, whether we might have more than one meeting spot.
I've attached the information from the Shoreline Antique Auto club which gives the guidelines for participating with your old car. The third page of the attachment is the pertinent portion of the Jazz Festival brochure, which gives directions and a list of bands. There is always more than one band playing at a time, so you can pick and choose according to your tastes, and there are plenty of food and beverage stations. It's a fun day and I highly recommend it for a total change of pace.
Hope to see you there!
Barring a monsoon, I'll definitely be there -- hope to see some other AlfaBBers!
