Alternator?

Hey guys

Euro Alfetta GTV

First start after winter - started on the 2nd try, generator light went out for 3-4 seconds, then came back on and stayed on.
It's fully illuminated, not just slightly.

12.4V engine off and 12.4V engine on, up to about 4k.

Swapped the regulator, same thing.

That leaves the alternator right?

Alternator is a Magneti Marelli, probably orig.
Alternator belt looks Ok. I changed it about 3 years ago. At that time the generator light was faintly illuminated,
like you might get when a bunch of electrical things are on. Changing the belt cured it.

Thanks

alternator not charging. happy charging should be 13.5>14V. where are you measuring? should be measuring at battery posts... if volts good at cable ends but not posts, maybe corrosion inside clamps... clean and remeasure. if 12.4 v at posts - is just running on battery voltage.

Yeah, it's running on battery power.

I also checked the voltage drop and it seems to be ok, so I guess that leaves the alternator.

Marelli alternator unlike it's Bosch counterpart has separate brush holder and regulator. Have you checked the brushes/ slip rings? End of life brushes will give the behavior you report. I have the exploded assembly drawings for both types if of any use.
