Aluminum Coolant Reservoir (Group Buy?)

Is there any interest in an aluminum coolant reservoir for the GTV6?

I see reproduction plastic coolant reservoirs from the usual suppliers. My original is showing splits at the seam. (for now I've 'welded' it with hot melt glue...) Does anyone have any experience with these reproductions?

Another source of reproduction plastic reservoir: Bertelsbeck Automotive - COOLANT TANK GTV/6, (116) COOLANT TANK GTV/6, (116) 265 28480

I emailed Canton Racing Products who had made an aluminum coolant tank for a friend a few years ago. This was their reply:
Quote:
Hi Eric,
The last time we built the Alfa tank was for a group buy in 2015. I think we were building 4 and your friend got lucky and we added a 5th. If you could get together with some other Alfa owners and get a group buy together that is probably the only way it could be done. If you got 5 guys together and order 5 tanks they would cost $222.39 each. I would say that 5 is the minimum we would build.
I assume this does not include shipping (I didn't ask yet). And I'm not sure if they would ship them separately (to each of us X5) or to one address (say, me - and then I'd have to forward them on).

Anyway, any other sources for coolant reservoirs? Or interest in having a few made?

I got one in a group buy a couple of years ago and I am happy with it. A search should show the thread and the company that made them should be able to make more. Ask me if you cannot find it and I will search through my old emails.

The trouble with plastic tank reproductions is they tend to be cheaply made, often without essential inner bracing and baffles, or thick enough wall material. We have the same trouble with replica tanks for the 164. They quite often don't last as long as the cheaply made original so I've heard. Pity

Being as I the one currently in my car has an overflow held on by tie-wraps and my back up shows cracking around the neck, I would definitely be interested.

Ours were made by Canton Racing Products. Contact was Bob. Cost was about $265 in Jan 2016. I think that they are the same people that made them for IAP.

My original is leaking. I think the outflow tube is cracked right where it joins the wall. I tried sealing it with silicone but last weekend I noticed a new small puddle. I could be interested.

as good as a car can be... briefly.

That is who I contacted. Their reply in in post #1.

I have since located another potential source for an aluminum tank. Price is about the same (~$225 plus shipping).

There was one small issue with the Canton tank. A bracket was a little out of place and it required a spacer for installation. I can check mine and be more specific if that would be helpful. Otherwise it is a very good product, something I rarely say about aftermarket parts.
I think that you may run a higher risk of another similar problem if you have someone make them for the first time. There was a lot of communication between Canton and our lead guy while they developed the design.

I bought my ALU tank through IAP a few years back...sounds as if it was a Canton build.

Is there a way to check coolant level (viewing window)?

If so I am in.

The IAP and Canton tanks have a sight glass (which is clear plastic, not glass).

I'd be interested as well. Maybe at 10, a price break? It would be nice to maybe have a few on hand for the next guy.
