Database error

FYI, I just encountered the Database error shown in the partial screen shot below.

Attachment 1083098

Buried in the page source code was the following information:

Further wonkyness is that images attached to threads no longer load (or do so only intermittently). For example, the screen shot I posted above doesn't show anymore and clicking on the link that substitutes it produces an "invalid attachment" error.

Here's the screen shot again. All I did was refreshing the forums page.

I suspected for a while that AlfaBB is losing posts as it happened twice that stuff I was sure I posted disappeared later. A database connectivity/synchronization issue (such as the one resulting in the missing screen shot in post #1 above) may explain that.

Was that attachment in the OP uploaded for this thread or did you take the attachment from another thread? When I went into edit mode for the 1st post, the attachment file isn't there. Does the file still exist on your account (you should be able to find it in your userCP).

Yes, the attachment was created for the first post in this thread (and then recreated and reposted as requested after it disappeared).

It seems the database disappeared as per the source code snippet in the first post and then went out of sync (reset/reloaded to an earlier state?) after the attachment was posted. As per the screenshot, the original error message said "technical staff have been notified" and you should see errors both in the web server and dB server log files.

I just had another attachment disappear when I wrote this post I started writing, attached the image (and checked in "preview post"), then went to have dinner and continued writing thereafter, and, upon hitting submit, the image had disappeared and there was only an empty link (forcing me to edit the post and reattach the picture, which has a different sequence number than the first attachment).

Shane, if you hit the "Quote" button on the post I'm referring to above, you'll see that my post has 2 attachments, not just one: The first one (attachment 1093433) is the attachment that disappeared, the 2nd one (attachment 1093474) is the repost of the same image after the first one disappeared.

The problem is device independent (I used Chrome on Win10 for the post) -- and I can assure you that it's a server side issue. Has a timeout been introduced for creating drafts? Do you have a cleanup utility running (Cron job?) that deletes attachments not referenced in posts (thus deleting attachments in drafts)?

Once a object is attached it's attached, unless the draft is deleted, or the image itself is.

However here is that post when I open in in full advanced mode.Name: Missing Attachment.jpg

Yes, the screenshot is what I see, too -- and I would hope for "Once a object is attached it's attached" to be true.

However, in both instances of attached images disappearing (post #1 above and the post where the screenshot is from), I neither deleted the drafts nor the attachments. I usually stay logged-in 7x24 (i.e. I have an AlfaBB screen open somewhere almost all the time), so I'm not sure if a 90-minute session timeout may have an impact (as mentioned above, there was a dinner pause between attaching the picture and finishing the draft). I'll run some tests in the Testing area to see if I can force the disappearance of attachments (without deleting the attachments or the draft).

BTW, can you look up the time stamps of attachments 1093433 and 1093474 in the database?
