Meadow Brook Concours 2007: Alfa Romeo B.A.T. cars

Between 1953 and 1955, Alfa Romeo and design house Bertone created a trio of aerodynamic design concepts dubbed Berlinetta Aerodinamica Tecnica or B.A.T. All three B.A.T. cars were brought out for display at the 2007 Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance in Auburn Hills, MI this past weekend in conjunction with the U.S. introduction of the upcoming Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, and we were there to capture the moment.

The B.A.T. cars were an exploration of aerodynamic ideas in the post World War 2 era as the jet age was just beginning. With the goal of achieving the lowest possible drag coefficient, they got as low as 0.19 and managed speeds up to 125 mph from only 90 horsepower. Some of the design elements that appeared on these cars were carried over into production cars in the 1960s, such as the split rear window that showed up on the 1963 Corvette coupe. No production cars ever had tail fins quite like the B.A.T 7 of 1954, though.
