40o Duetto:A story of open air emotions

The celebrations of the 40th anniversary of Duetto took place in Italy last weekend.A big number of cars, among them a great number of rare examples such as the 1929 and 1930 Mille Miglia winners 1750SS and 1750GS, the 1940 6C 2500 cabriolet and some extraordinary pieces from the Arese Museum, gathered in Villa San Carlo Borromeo at Senago.Over 300 Alfa clubs were invited to participate. The cars were exchibited in public at Milano (Piazza Duomo). Then they headed for Orta San Giulio, where during WW2 The Alfa Romeo R&D department and 158 repair dept. were transfered, as the facilities of the Portello factory were seriously damaged by the allies air raids. The event closed with a gala at hotel San Rocco.

Νο Τifoso
That was the 1947 6C 2500 Freccia D'Oro.
The one in the picture is a pre war (circa 1938) 6C 2500

Thanks for the fantastic pictures GTV116! Too bad the Duomo is hidden by all that scaffolding - what an exquisite place for such a momentous occasion! (But then again, I'm a little biased.)

Prosexe to kaltson.

“Alfa Romeo is not merely a maker of automobiles : it truly is something more than a conventionally built car. It is a kind of affliction, an enthusiasm for a means of transport. It is a way of living, a very special way of perceiving the motor vehicle. What it is resists definition. Its elements are like those irrational character traits of the human spirit which cannot be explained in logical terms. They are sensations, passions, things that have much more to do with man’s heart than with his brain”.

I agree. The feeling we got was indescribable when we emerged from the metro, and saw the beautiful Duomo and Galleria--even with the scaffolding. The Duomo is a fantastic backdrop for all those wonderful Alfas.
