Because pure magnesium wheels are flammable and crack easily, Campy and Cromodora production wheels made starting in the late 60's were an aluminum alloy that contained a relatively high magnesium content. One or both of these manufacturers used an aluminum alloy called Elektron. High magnesium content does not make a magnesium wheel.
Are the alloy wheels as porous as true magnesium?

The 1982 - 84 Campagnolo star wheels are magnesium and are several pounds lighter.
These have "Campagnolo" stamped on the outer edge.
After 1985, these same wheels were made by FPS and are a heavier alloy.
These will have a small diamond shape brand with "FPS" inside it along the outer edge.

Cromodora made the CD 35, star rims that are magnesium.
About a decade ago, KBS started making reproduction alloy versions of the CD 35s which are the ones that Centerline sells currently.
