00548 Engine

Looking for an 00548 Euro 1750 engine. The sequential serial number must be less than 10,000 which would make it a Series 1 from 1968. Need just the block with main caps but all offerings considered. Any/all leads appreciated!
Thank you!

Jim

think I have pretty much what you want, a euro series 1 1750 block with main caps and an early style crank located in Baltimore ,

Hi, What you show is not a 548 carburetor block, as it is stamped 00551. 00551 should be for a 1750 FI block. See attached picture of a 548 block.

1750 blocks were also stamped on the engine exhaust side bell house flange.

Regards

Ken

548's

Jim,
I have 548 93475 ( bare block) and 548 95424 ( complete engine) that I was keeping for a future project! Might consider letting one go, shipping from s.a will be pricey though...........
Nick.

Jim

Just curious where the under 10k number for a 68 comes from. I have access to 3 68s verified by Marco. My 68 1750 spider has engine 00548 00503. My 2 owner 68 GTV has 00548 18934 and a friends 68 GTV has 00548 36734. Both GTVs were delivered to Frankfurt and the spider delivered to Canada.

Good question, Frank!
This engine is destined for a 10544 GTV with a chassis number of less than 2700. Combine this 2700 with all of the Berlinas and Spiders built through Feb 1968, the date this GTV was built, the though that an engine number less than 10,000 would be as close to a factory installed engine as one could get (numbers wise anyway).

I have a fair number of 10548 engine numbers on early 1750 Berlinas here, for reference: http://berlinaregister.com/berlina.pdf

Jim,

I have a NOS unnumbered 00548-type block but that's being saved for a future project. I also have another really good used block that has been sitting fully submerged in a barrel of heating oil for years (I looked at it earlier this summer and was amazed at how good it looked) but I imagine that not only would the shipping be expensive, but the residual fumes would probably set off the detectors before it even reached the aircraft

Have you tried Keith Goring?

Alex.
