I found the Pininfarina number in the trunk. It's a little indistinct, but seems to be 233448. Only ten off from your car. The bodies were probably built in the same batch at Pininfarina and sent to Alfa at the same time, with your car being assembled a few days before mine.

The statement that "the factory did not keep lists indicating that engine serial number" is only partially true -- and very much depends on model and year, and when their lists were computerized (the picture below is for 1971 Berlina, previously posted in this thread). However, since Alfa -- apparently as a matter of policy -- does not give out or confirm engine numbers, any discussion about whether or not such lists do or do not exist is purely academic.

Ruedi is correct.

Alfa Romeo does not share engine number information if you share only your chassis number and ask about it. If you share additional detail, such as the engine number and perhaps more(?), there are times when you might have a confirmation that an engine number is original or is not.

I have been collecting individual car data actively since 1980 and am still amazed at how many people will ask for information about a specific car without sharing even a chassis number! If you wish to make a query of Alfa Romeo or my own registry, I suggest you save a step (or two?) and share whatever it is that you think you know about your car. I am not a mind-reader and have no "crystal ball". Alfa Romeo employees are not allowed to share more than a bare minimum of information if only a bare minimum has been shared with them. Please, show some enthusiasm!

From the book Alfa Romeo Spider by Chris Reeve

Quoting Fusi, it looks like there were approximately 45 1971 10562 Spiders with 2000 engines. Is yours among the chassis numbers listed below?
