Vintage 1967 john foshee alfa romeo painting

I picked up an old painting from 1967 by John Foshee of a race. Does anyone out there know anything about him? Was he also known for painting or is this one of a kind? It is signed on the back "artist: John Foshee"

Hi, let me start by asking if I may have first dib's on the painting if you decide to sell it.

Second welcome to the Alfa BB. More about yourself would be of interest.

The picture appears to depict an Alfa GTA #2 likely in 1966 at some track. I can't think of any one using #2 in 1966 but maybe others can.

Never heard of John Foshee but......

To that end a google search lead me back to this Alfa BB to

http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/giul...-race-car.html

Dave Anderson makes reference to Foshee in post #15.

"I bought the Rasey Feezell car, later improved and raced by Ernie Smith and John Foshee from Doug Patterson in 1996 and vintage race it until 1999 when I sold the car to Sam Partin in Little Rock........."

You can contact Dave through this BB by clicking on his name after you sign in.

Hope this helps

Regards

Ken

Garage
Looks like an amateur attempt at copying George Bartell's painting that appeared in the Sept. 1966 issue of Sports Car Graphic.

John Foshee

Here is a picture of John Foshee with Ernie Smith. John is on the right. This was taken at the IMSA Finale at Daytona in November of 1976. They were partners on the car, and took turns driving the car from race to race. John drove the car at this race. As you can see in the picture, Ernie suited up "just in case his services as driver were needed." (:>)

Back then, John lived in Birmingham, Alabama. I don't know if he still does. And BTW, he pronounces his last name "Foshay."

John Foshee Remembered a Little Bit

John and Ernie were honored by Alfa Romeo, Inc. at a dinner in a private section of the "Windows on the World" at the World Trade Center in 1986 for their contribution furthering Alfa Romeo racing efforts in the United States.
Their car was featured in a slide presentation, National Sales Manager Aldo Bozzi spoke as did other dignataries and both racers were treated to a financial prize, a trophy and anything else Alfa Romeo, Inc. could do for them. The dinner was splendid as was the million dollar view. All during the year Technical Services and the National Parts and National Service Departments supported the team with any parts they needed, technical advice and overnight shipments of Autodelta parts to help them achieve their goals. If ARI had the racing budget and national stage of Porsche and VW Headquarters down the street, everyone would have recognized John and Ernie's name without me telling this story.
