69 Roundtail at Copart

Doesn't look too bad. I wonder if it was stolen? https://www.copart.com/lot/33512729

Those sites never give a good vehicle description. Salvage title, why?

True, you really need to look at the car in person or have someone check it out for you. An auto broker will do that for you for a fee.

Each state is different on what constitutes salvage. Hail damage will do it in some states while others will give a clean title. It also could have been a salvage title before it went to Copart since it shows Salvage/Branded title, so it could have been rebuilt before. If there's a car on Copart I'm interested in, I go down and do my own inspection, and if it looks okay, I pull a Carfax to see what else might be lurking from it's history.

Good grief Charlie Brown! I bet a six pack of your favorite brew that Alfa's stolen. It sure wasn't abandoned, by its condition. Jacksonville, FL is the location. Won't sit there very long, for sure. Thanks for posting 6alfas!

There could be other explanations. The Copart ad says "Primary Damage: Mechanical", so maybe it doesn't run. It's possible that someone just donated their late father's old, non-running car and that's what brought it to Copart and resulted in the "salvage title".

The VIN is listed, so if it is stolen, it's hiding in plain sight.

It's not donated, they say when they are.

It might have been stolen and recovered. But it also doesn't say that it runs or even starts.

It might have been involved in an incident that destroyed the engine. Hit something with the sump? Look how low it is. Insurance pays out and it goes to auction.

A friend just bought a Porsche with a similar history. The owner hit something and destroyed the engine. Filed a claim ang got paid out. The he bought the car back and sold it with a rebuilt title. Not exactly the same but close.

I like that theory.

Could be a European or Canadian delivery car: single brake booster and Webers instead of Spica.

Just noticed that the RF parking/TS light is hanging loose:

So it says primary damage was mechanical, secondary damage was dents and scratches.

I have bid on several cars on Copart. Not all of them are from insurance. This car will probably have a reserve closer to the owners "estimated retail value". And while Copart will say you won the auction you will get an email stating reserve not met with a new price acceptable to the owner, then you can counter.

It's listed as a pure sale, so no reserve.

It also shows a sale date as "future". I put it on my watch list.

The Carello headlight covers are not there, either. But the headlights are set up for them. I'm beginning to agree it might be a Euro or Canadian spec car.

The VIN starts with 141. That makes it a "Euro" 1750.
