I doubt that Berlina is an automatic. Most sellers on craigslister don't seem to know the difference between "manual" and "automatic". Judging from the number of pictures and amount of text in this ad, the seller isn't particularly conscientious, even by CL's low standards.

Did Alfa even make an automatic version of the Berlina? Or a 1975 model? My copy of the "Alfa Romeo Buyers Guide" indicates 1974 as the final model year for Berlinas.

Too bad there aren't more photos (including one of the interior). It looks like a reasonably clean car.

Yes, they did!

Did Alfa even make an automatic version of the Berlina? I sort of doubt it. If one exists, my guess is that it's home brewed.[/QUOTE]

Hi Alfajay,
Alfa did make automatic Berlina’s.
In fact, we also had 105 Automatic coupes here in Australia. I believe most were 1975 models and were manufactured/assembled in South Africa. They nearly all had white interiors. They come up for sale here once in a while.

Yes there are automatic 1750s and 2000s, but none came to the US when new; not certified by the feds. This car has rubber bumpers, which was US only, mid 1973 on. So I agree with Jay that it's probably a posting error. Yes someone could have modified, but seems unlikely.

I knew of two auto Berlinas in the US, but it's been years and I don't know if they're still around.

When I saw the ad, I thought the same thing.
The first Alfas with automatics were Alfetta sedans which had ZF units in them.

They have those loooong ratio diffs the 2-litre hot-Rodders like.

^^
the three little holes to the left of the right hand tail light, is where the "automatic" emblem was.

Not on a US car. That is where Iniezione goes.

Those tall diffs had a LSD. Quite a few automatic Berlinas, even good ones, were sacrificed simply for that one item. I put one in my first GTV6.
