Purchase: Coup or Spider?

I have determined to start the search for an 8c to purchase. The coup appears to have the better design, but it is clear that the open top version captures the heart of the professional reviewers much more.

It also seems the spider has been sorted our better as well.

I would like to know the consensus of the fans on the site as to which is the preferred model now with those in the know. Thank you for your help!

It is not a matter of which body style you prefer, but what is available. With only 84 US Coupes, (of which at least 3 went to Canada and probably cannot come back) and 20 US Spiders (of which we can only account for 15), there are not many possible purchases. The market has moved rapidly in the last five months, so you should act quickly. Many of the original owners see the cars as a long term part of their collections, and cars currently available are being acquired by collectors who missed them the first time around. I am an owner, not a seller or dealer.

Will it be a driver or in your collection? I'm of the opinion that a great car is even better with the top down.

current and or past: 1987 Milano (Ariel) 1984 GTV6 (Sabrina) 1992 164L (Jill) 1992 164S (Kelly) 1989 Spider Veloce (Julie) 1991 164L (Chris) 1991 Spider (Melissa)

Alfatango1: I believe that there is no question that the Spider has some advantages. It has carbon ceramic brakes, the fuel tank is mounted lower and there may be some other suspension updates. However, the number of cars potentially available in the US makes finding a Spider very difficult.

Having driven both back-to-back, I find that the Spider gives me more confidence. I may of course be biased since I'm more familiar with the Spider than the Competizione, but that's what I felt.

In any case, I think you can't go wrong with either one. It comes down to personal preference and, as DWR46 correctly points out, availability.
