S4 spider veloce with 48k miles was not run for a year while I recovered from a stroke. Only used non ethanol gas. Car will crank but not accelerate. 2 exhaust valve are stuck open. Are soaking with penetrating oil. Any suggestions appreciated.
Rotate the camshaft so that the valve should be fully closed. Use a hammer and a punch made of soft metal or hard wood to bounce the valve open and closed a few times.
Make sure that the punch contacts the top of the valve stem and not the spring retainer.
Would say put some rope in the cylinder and slowly rotate the piston up, but there's a chance that would bend the valve. I'd get a large oak dowel and tap around the valve and cross your fingers it pops back up. If not remove the cam and lifter bucket and tap the top of the valve stem with a dead blow. If you go that route just remember there's going to be a small shim under the lifter bucket that you'll need to keep up with.
Assuming you mean the lifter buckets? You cannot see the valves unless you've removed the cams and lifter buckets.
