Provided the car is relatively close to the seller’s description, I think he would be wise to invest most likely another 5,000 or so in a complete stem to stern detail and run it through a proven auction. Why not?

The seller seems pretty hung up on VINs, model years and options, which happens to be pretty uninteresting (or even useless) information when it comes to Montreal collectibility and/or desirability, so I assume he's not terribly into Montreals or even period Euro sportscars/GTs in general.
Beware of estate sales peddled by sellers of antiques, knick knack and trinkets.
