Hello
I found « 2600 Sprint » lateral emblems in very good condition to replace the current ones. The problem is I don’t know how to access to the small bolts behind the wings...:confused1:
Can someone help me by telling me how to proceed?
I thank you by advance,
Xavier
On the spider there are access plates on the inner wheel arch. I cant see this on the sprint full parts manual. On the sprint it looks like there may be access from the footwell if you take of the trim. Marked in red below
Thank you Redmerlin for your feedback.
I also thought I had to dismount the access plates on the inner front wheel arch but they give access to the engine compartment...
So you mean behind the vertical trim on the side of the footwell, as illustrated on the right top corner of the picture :
Just a few pictures to illustrate the discussion :
my 2600 Sprint with its current "Sprint" emblems...
and the appropriate emblems I found after polishing :
Thank you Redmerlin for your feedback. I also thought I could have access through the plates on the inner front wheel arch, but they give access to the engine compartment... As you say, the vertical trim on the lateral side of the footwell seems to be the only solution, but for the moment I don’t know how to dismount them...

Normally just held in with screws - start by removing carpets . Then feel round edge of panel for locating screws - starting at the front. Unless teh panels have been glued in you should find the screwss
Hello Redmerlin. We talk about the vertical panel on the top right corner of the following picture ? As a matter of fact, I am afraid that the panels have been glued ...
Just to illustrate the discussion : these are my current lateral emblems...
yes it may be the grey carpet panel in the footwell you need to remove , You will have to search round the edges for screws . They are small and may be sunken into the carpet. I can maybe see one in the bottom right hand corner.
You were right Redmerlin : I finally found the three screws fixing each lateral panel : the heads were hidden in the carpetting...
So I removed the panels :
And then : no access to the inside of the wings !!!:cursing:
The same on the other side :
I was really disapointed because I really thought it was the right way.
So definitely no access through the inside or through the arch wheels !
So I looked more carefully in the engine compartment and it seems that a small plate can be removed in the extrem corner (somewhere below the A pillar). The problem is it is nit easy access and sealed with a kind of old paste...
I will let you know!
Xavier
Redmerlin I hope you are joking ! Of course you did not send me in the wrong direction, even if it was not successful a the end. Sharing the points of view is always helpful. At least I had the opportunity to check the condition of the body behind these panels.
I am just a bit disappointed that there’s not more experience to share on alfabb about the 2600 Sprint but globally there’s not so much experience on restoring these cars ...
So I confirm the extrem corner in the engine compartment is the right way : there are two small plates fixed by two small screws... and half a kilo of sealing paste !
And behind these plates you have access to the back face of the wing!
I am now polishing the body before fixing the emblems. I will show the final result!
Now all you need is some very long arms with nimble 10" long fingers. Glad you like the badges.
