BB1 MY 91 164L Euro Upgrade Timing Belt Story cont...

Everybody's latest stories and opinions on Busso engine timing belts got me to check on BB1's Timing belt. I am good to go for awhile yet as Chassis Speedo now at 221K. The belt changed 01-12-16 at 203K. That makes it 18k on belt (euro 1999-2005 AR 916 GTV/Spider upgrade version) and 3 years 8 months in service.

I have done Euro upgrade belt (half-moon teeth) along with cam pulleys, aux drive pulley and crank cog gear to both BB1, BB2 and my spare 164L 6096 mile engine.

See my process story board here: https://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/164...1-my-164l.html

With as little as I get to drive BB1 and BB2 I am sure I will reach a calendar change due date long before I would reach a mileage due change date.

I am running the mechanical tensioner retrofit we all know to both love and hate and have been since 1993 when I had my 91 164B "Originale"

That tensioner was as far as I know first used on the Alfa 166 12v engine. That 12v engine did not have aux shaft to drive oil pump as that engine had a oil pump driven by crankshaft.

Are you using five years as age-out on belts? Mine just crossed five years old with a hydraulic de-tensioner, but only a few thousand miles on it. The de-tensioner has been leak free.

Do a good visual inspection of belt.

I probably will go at least 5 years now on this euro belt set up. Sure won't even get close to 50k or even 35k mileage by then. When I get back to FL I will have to check date and mileage I have on BB2's euro belt. I put that car on the road in 2012 with original style belt but did euro upgrade probably about same time as BB1 so maybe in late 2015.
