Left (driver's side) Headlamp Relay

With headlights on, not getting a low-beam. However, Hi-beam works when flipped on. Where can i check first? Could it be a bad relay?

Probably a burnt out bulb

F4 10A fuse in main fuse panel G1 under dash used to energize relay I49 located in in front of air cleaner. Relay also has a 10A fuse in it for low beam element in bulb.

How could the bulb be burnt if the Hi-beam works? I'll check the fuses and relay when I get home and post results . Thank you. Much appreciated

Three pins - High Low and Ground is how on USA 9004 bulb set up. Even Euro Series 1 H4 bulb has three contacts but more robust than skinny 9004 set up.

There are 2 elements in the bulb. One for high beam, one for low beam. Usually the low beam element burns out first.

Okay tried the following:

Replaced with new bulb. Still only getting high beam. No Low-beam

Replaced (swapped out) relay I49, but still no low-beam

Any other suggestions? This has got me stumped and driving me a little crazy, especially because I have go for inspection next month.

Did you check the low beam fuse in fuse box? Did you have a burnt connector in socket to headlight?

Can you use a multimeter to coinfirm voltage at low beam pin in connector to bulb? There are two or three relays there. One for horn, one for low beam and one for A/F fan motor if A/T model. Both horn and fan should have 30A fuses only I49 should have 10A BUT that doesn't mean that is what fuses your car's relay have. People do strange things with fiuses.

We are talkimg left head light in front of air cleaner box right? If so low beam wire to connector is gray-black. Black is ground for both low and high beam elements so it must be good if you have high beam.

So did you swap out relay with gray-black wire at pin 87 to headlight?

Some troubleshooting required on your part.

Okay should have done the simple things first...I'll remember that for next time.

Did not have burnt connector in socket because was getting reading on both sides. Low-beam pin voltage was around 8-10v? is this okay or should it be around 12v? Cleaned connections on relay in front of air cleaner box and then replaced 10A low beam fuse in fuse box. Low-beam headlights now work!

However, after getting left headlight to work, ran into another issue...

Lights/Icons on instrument cluster do NOT illuminate. Which fuse or relay do I check ?

but hey, maybe its not such a bad thing with pending inspection check engine light won't come on randomly.

OK, make it easy on us. Put your year model, etc in your signature and is it 5-speed or A/T?

Green low beam light icon same F4 10A fuse (only on 5-speed models).

High beam blue headlight icon F5 R/H high beam fuse relay in fuse box.

Tail light, parking light side marker green icon F1 7.5A fuse (this only green one that shows with/on A/T models with low beams on) On 5-speed models both this green icon and low beam green icon show up with H/L on low beams.

You own a 164 so get 164 DVD from CarDisc International Ltd. - Alfa Romeo Manuals, Giulietta Manuals, Giulia Manuals, GTV Manuals, Spider Manuals, American Austin & American Bantam if you can't find paper manuals.

Sorry about that. it's a 95 LS A/T 63,000 miles

Nothing showing up on instrument panel EXCEPT green low-beam light icon, blue hi-beam headlight icon, and R/L turn signal icons.

Mileage, P-R-N-D-2-3, gages, and any other icons on that panel are now not illuminating or working

I give up as data I gave you was for a 91 not 95. Apples and oranges go get a DVD.

Problem solved! Must have taken out F2 "Key operated" current for ecu in auxilary fusebox and forgot to put it back when i was testing fuses earlier today.

Everything is working now.

Thanks for the help today! Much obliged.

Point of info there aren't any headlight relays behind headlights on 94-95 models anyway.

Remember different models have different configurations.
