Transmission Teardown

Ok I am tearing down a spare transmission that I picked up for my Spider. All the gears look to be good and so I am more inclined to use this than my other transmission that has a 2nd gear crunch. But I would like to get everything removed so I can clean the casing. But I can not figure out how to remove the selector rods that are holding the top gears in.

Any help?

Removing Gears

You dont really have to remove the forks, unless they are worn and then it is an absolute necessity.
To get the gears out just pry them put in the direction of the opening of the forks.
You will have to dissasemble the gears from the shaft to really asses the sybcronisers, and 1st & 2nd including the toothed assemblies should generally be changed. But also look at 3rd. (1st gear to get rid of the unidirectional syncroniser in any case!)
4th & 5th are good donors for the assemblies from your other trans. If 3rd is "iffy" in the trans you plan to use, you should use the donor 5th syn/tooth assembly there. Use the 4th donor as 2nd and the next best two for 1st and 5th and swap the 5th slider from the donor to 1st/2nd and your 5th slider to
3rd/4th. Use the 3/4th slider for 5th and you are set....
Simple

Yea any special tools that I may need to remove and install the gears on the shaft?

After closer inspection 2nd gear will need to be replaced. A couple of the smaller gears on the side of 2nd gear are missing.

Im hoping not to use any parts from the other transmission, Im planning on just getting new gears. This is because I want to take the other transmission if this one goes good and do the same thing except maybe lighten all the gears. Unless I should just be doing that with this transmission.

To get the shafts out you will need to remove the 3 denent balls & springs. Then take out the set screws that hold the forks to the shafts. Then remove the shafts one at a time. Be sure to not loose the interlocks.

Got the Output shaft finally out and decided to start at tearing down the Layshaft first because it looked a bit simpler.

How do I go about getting the race off the shaft? Do I need to use a press?
