Speculative: 164S transmission and all hardware available

Should I swap them into an automatic '91L with failing ZF transmission? What is involved with the pedal box? The speedo clusters have nearly the same miles and could be swapped if speedo calibration is an issue. This would remove the (otherwise unused) automatic transmission fluid overheat indicatior, too.

This is a speculation. I'm also considering strongly rebuilding the transmission. I got some metal chips and shavings. See:

The main parts packages for overhaul kit and fiber clutches will cost approx. $500, and the steel clutch package about half that in addition if I need it. Anyone been into a ZF auto box for a 164 here? Warnings? Encouragement? It looks like a learning experience. I've never done a transmission before.
