What is this rubber bushing for?

I am almost ready to seal up my rebuilt transmission and i have this rubber bushing left that appears to go on the reverse gear shaft - but does it? It looks like the gear might crush it to get into reverse. If its on the outside the fork cannot get to the gear. can someone confirm where the bushing goes -please? much thanx

If you're putting a short rod tranny with your original mechanical clutch bellhousing you'll have to adapt the bellhousing for the newer style (screw in)reverse light switch. Bellhousing also requires a different seal for the input shaft. Rubber bushing doesn't ring a bell but maybe a picture will jog my memory.

thanks bill S -- i realize now that it also fits on the shifter it must go there i think - it really makes no sense for it to be on the reverse idler shaft. She's all buttoned up for now....
