Replacing the inside of a 33 gearbox.

hi!
got an extra gearbox for a 16v 33, with syncro rings from hell
thought about building a stronger gearbox, is there anyone that sell a "kit"? or what should i do to make it stronger? need to take pretty much torque..

Hi Bill

If your engine is putting out around standard horsepower, I think you'll find that the Alfa Boxer gearboxes are generally robust enough. Just those damn synchros get crunching earlier than you'd really want. They all seem to do it on the 33s, its not just yours !!

I know a number of people running modified engines with reasonably standard gearboxes, and they hold up pretty well even in competition if well maintained.

When I had mine done, it got a good check over, and was otherwise OK, so we put new synchro rins on 2nd gear & swapped the rings on 1st & 5th.

The gearshift still feels the same - like a knitting needle in a bowl of marbles, but it works just fine now, no more crunchy noises when shifting.

Cheers
Dave

I`ve been talking to some `experts`, and they say that the original 33 gearbox can handle 300hp. But Is there not any way to increase the strength of the synchro?
