Oil seal installation

Hello all

I'm about to complete the refurbishing of my 1967 gearbox.
I need just to put in place the front and rear oil seals before bolting the clutch housing and the rear cover; and that's it.
I've read sometime somewhere that it was recommended to put these kind of seal not exactly perpendicular to the axis of the shafts but rather slightly slantwise to prevent the seal from digging the shaft by rubbing always at the same point.
Is this true and if so what angle do you recommand ?

Put them in straight with a lube on the seal area. Crooked would leak.

Straight, with small amount of gear oil, then get a PVC plastic pipe same diameter of seal, about 20cm long, then place over seal, and tap in carefully with hammer. It should go in straight. That is how I did mine with the help of a friend who has 30+ yrs exp on mechanics. Buona Fortuna!

General consensus. No more hesitation
Always better to ask before making the mistake.
Many thanks to you for your help and merry Christmas.
