Rev Counter gear
Does anyone know where I can get a new rev counter gear or assembly? The outer threads on my assembly were very brittle and actually squeazed and cracked as i was gripping it to remove it from the rear casing of the tranny.
Thanks

The tach drive is on the front of the engine. The speedometer is connected to the trans.

I've no idea how to help you on this one. But this service item for the speedo drive appeared on eBay earlier this year - so this is what you should be looking for.

THat's it
Alex,
Thanks. The item in the second picture is what I need. The Alfa "Shop Manual" refers to this as the "Rev counter gear"

The rev counter reference threw me as well. I thought you were talking about the tach. What car is this for? Count the number of teeth on your original part - I've probably got one that I'd sell for $20 including shipping in the U.S.

Bill,
Thanks! Yeah... the "rev counter" is throwing most people off.
THis is for a 73 GTV 2000
I was just told by centerline to count the teeth. After I've done that is it cool to send you a pm? I would need the entire assembly.
Cheers

Sure, I'm headed out for the weekend so I won't be able to check until monday and if you find another/better source my feelings won't be hurt. I know I've got a couple of good housings so the big question is the # of teeth.

Hi all,
Be aware that there are different gear sets (the one in the picture and the one on the output shaft) for different axle ratios.
I swapped the set out for another from APE in California when I changed my car from 4,56:1 to 4,10:1 axle.
Regards,
Neil

Seems logical ... got any further details, e.g. number of teeth, cog diameter etc? I'm about to go from 4.56:1 down to 4.30:1 so I'd be interested to know if a Berlina rev counter (tach counter) drive would have to be installed too. Is the little gear bronze, steel etc?

Hi Alex,
I'd have to dig my notes out - I think I counted teeth. But I don't have any numbers for a 4,30:1 set anyhow. The best way can be to get the set from a parts car that is known to have (had) a 4,30:1. You need to remove the output "spider" from the transmission (the three-armed output thingie). The "longitudinal" gear, if I can call it that, is pressed onto the spider. So easiest way is to get the full spider including gear off the parts car. The gears are steel as I remember, so is the shaft you see in the service kit picture above, and the body as you've probably seen is aluminium. The little oil seal in the service kit picture is important to keep your gear oil in the right place.
As others have already written, this has nothing to do with rev/tach counter/tachometer, which is on the front of the motor at the water pump.
Cheers,
Neil

Hi again,
Found my notes.
Speedo gears for 4,56:1 axle = 21 teeth on the takeoff and 9 teeth on the tranny spider.
For 4,10:1 axle = 13 teeth on the takeoff and 6 on the tranny spider.
I don't have any diameters.
Cheers,
Neil
