In a transaxle the lube used is extremly important. In my customer`s close ratio transaxles I specify ONLY Redline 75-90 NS (no slip) which is formulated for friction syncronizers (like our Alfa`s Porsche parts), & LSD units with clutch type LS packs. The R&P requires a hypoid additive, but you cannot use a GL 5 type Synthetic, or you will experience syncro problems as they do not have the grip to spin up the gear assembly & clutch disk because of the EP effectivness. I would suggest the same lube(Redline NS) in Alfa transmissions as the Porsche syncros need the LSD additive assistance to be really effective, and it will extend their life. Spirax with a shot of LSD additive available from parts stores is great as well.
Hope everyone has a Happy New Year of gear Crunching!
