Synchro rings installation way

Hello,

I'm in the process of redoing a 1966 105 gearbox.
I am going to change the old synchro rings (line engraved non moly) against new ones (rough surface moly).
I realize the section on the new ones is not symetrical. I mean the slope is smooth one way and more abrupt on the other way. This result in the fact that the top of the ring is not exactly at the center point.
Is there a specific side to fit them or can they be installed either way ?
I guess in one side the mover ring will engage smoother than in the other but what about the final locking ?

Thanks for your help.

1) the synchros should be symmetrical
2) If you used new moly synchros you will need to swap moly stop bands and related hardware in and used new sliders

Hi,
Is what you call slider the dog toothed ring sliding from one gear to the adjacent one (that I miscalled mover ring)?
If so in my box only one needs to be changed (guess which one), 2 of them are still in good shape.
Why can't they be reused ?
Thanks,

Jean-Pierre

G'Day Guys,

Let's try and use Alfa's terminology to prevent confusion. The sliding ring is the syncro sleeve.

The early ones are not compatable with the late synchros. If you don't want to change all the stuff just find an extra used early synchro ring, swap out the dog teeth and flip the rest of the synchros.
