Those of you who have had trouble with removing the large circlip on the gear to access the syncros take a look at this circlip plier set. The Photo by Armstrong is poor but this set has 3 pliers, small , med and large with various interchangeable points. It will do internal and external circlips. The large pliers should have no trouble with the gear circlip as I have been able to remove them with the medium size. A good set that would be able to remove any clip I can think of on an Alfa. I don't know what the set costs, I happened to see it at a shop that specializes in bearings.

Hi,

those circlips are very hard and i would not recommand using pliers with removable tips...if the quality of the pliers is not perfect, you'll bend the tips and not remove the circlips.

Not so, If you keep the tips short. I have used the middle size pliers sucessfully and have bent a tip yet. I've tried a # of tools to remove these and so far the only one that works well is these
