Trans- Help!

I'm new at alfa's-I have a 88 spider-Needs synkros third gear-how much should the average cost I should expect to repair?
should it be difficult to find the right part?will I get a run around from a trannyman so he can hike up the price?
If anyone can give some advice

Where are you located? Someone on the BB should be able to refer you to the right shop for an honest price. Don't know how to estimate your costs over the internet. R&R of the tranny is a constant, but what a good mechanic will find on disassembly of an 18 year old transmission is a big variable.

I seem to recall an Alfa flat rate chart I've seen as asigning 8 hours to rebuild a trans and my expirience finds that more or less about right. Parts, as Wil says, is an unknown and extra. But I would plan for 5 Synchro rings, 2 or 3 Synchro sliders and 1 or 2 Synchro hubs and cross your fingers on bearings.
