If it has a red sticker on the side, it's mid-67 or later and has moly syncros. Much easier to rebuild. Yellow sticker has non moly syncros with the ridged surface. If it has a push down pin on the shift stub for reverse lockout, it's pre-69. The later lever built into the tower for the reverse lockout is more desirable, in my opinion, but the rear sections should be interchangable. Sometime in mid-74? the 3 shift rods were shortened and the reverse light switch in the bellhousing consequently changed from one that was mounted on a angle bracket to one that threaded into the rear of the bellhousing. You can tell by shifting into reverse and seeing if the rod protrudes from the front of the case (earlier long rod type). The transmission case itself is different after this point because it is no longer machined for the o-rings at the ends of the shift rods. At some point, 69?, they changed from a bronze bearing sleeve to needle bearings for 5th gear. From what I understand, most of the internals (gears, bearings, syncros) from mid 67 on are interchangable.
Whew

, all of the above information is approximate and based on my experience with North American Alfas and quite open to correction. Joe? Anybody?
