Needing some help with brake rebuild/parts

Last week, we drove the 67 GT to the Alfa convention IL River Tour. When we exited the expressway ramp after a 60 mile stint, smoke was rolling from under the rear wheel wells. I made the short jont to the parking lot where we were all meeting, and a few concerned Alfisti came running with fire extinguishers. No fire, just a bunch of smoke. So anyway, the rear rims were covered in brake dust, and so hot you couldn't touch them. The general concensus was locked rear calipers or E- brake. No convention tour for us

So a total brake rebuild is underway. I have pulled the rear calipers, r-rear was leaking a bit of fluid. Calipers torn down, new parts on order, the calipers looked ok and the e-brake seems fine, but onward we go. New flexible line for rear is also on order.

Next the front calipers. The short, solid brake line that connects the caliper to the flex line is shot. the tube is bent, and the fitting that threads into the caliper is rounded smooth. No way do I want to do all this work and not replace this.

So to make the long story short, I am in need of the hard lines on the rear diff and these short lines on the front calipers. I have searched most suppliers and no one seems to carry them for this madel and year. Will I have to have them made? I have a flaring tool, but understand you cannot duplicate the flare these fittings have? I would like to replace as much of the hard lines as possible, when you guys restore these cars, who do you get your lines from?

I can bend and fit the lines my self, I have flared other fittings with success before, but are these "special" flares? Double flares? Who can supply the threaded fittings, or do I need to search used. Sorry so many questions, what else may I be missing or need to check?

Thanks a bunch for your help and advice.

P.S.- I need to complete this job without ending up at the mechanic- I have a bet with my wife I could do it myself, I NEED HELP PLEASE!!!

Where to buy brake line, fuel line, brake line flaring tools, brake line nuts and brake line fittings should have everything you need, if you really do want to re-bend lines yourself. I'm going to be doing the whole car on my '67 Super to convert to a dual-circuit system, so you're welcome to the front and rear caliper lines if mine are any good. I'll check when I get home - they're all off the car, so it's not too hard. Basically, you need all four caliper lines, front and rear - is that right?

You may have missed a point here. The pressure operated brake light switch can short out internally & apply the rear brakes. All your work may be in vain as you may only need a brake light switch. Try disconnecting the front one 1st & the brakes should release. Automec.co.uk can supply a full set of hard lines for about £100.

Thanks for the information, I appreciate your input.

Here's what has transpired today- called Alfa parts exchange, they will be sending out 2 of the short lines I needed. They are for the larger Ate caliper, he thought that they would still work. If not, I will use the contact mentioned above to fab my own. I apparently still have the original "small" Ate calipers up front. The rear caliper was leaking just a bit, so the rebuild was needed anyway, the fronts were fine, just figured to do it all at the same time "just in case".

I will check the brake pressure switch, maybe just replace it if available. The rear brakes did release after they cooled down a bit, they never locked up, rather would drag. I could still turn the wheels by hand with the car on the jacks.

jarrington- I will let you know if I need your lines, I have all new flex lines, I would like to replace the rear lines if possible. Thanks a bunch. Not sure what it would take to replace all the lines, if they would be the same length as mine.

Do you have the original '67 axle? I have the rear lines that came on the car, as well as a pair on a spare axle. Between the two sets I should have what you need.

Yes- the car has the original axle.

It also has the original "small" front Ate calipers/setup. I was told that you can turn a new front rotor down to work on the original front of this car, since the original rotors are no longer made. Anyone heard of this. Would it be safe?

Centerline stocks the original front rotors - rear are the same as any other 105/115. I'm hoping I can have the old ones turned, since they're still within spec.

Centerline Products: BR103 Standard Front Rotors - Giulia 105 GT, Duetto 1965-68
