How to tell a leaky brake cylinder

Hi !

I wonder what are the first signs of a master brake cylinder that is internaly leaking. Visual or brake pedal feeling signs both qualify. If the leak is big I will know it, but are there any first hints in your experience ?

Hey Nickosd:

MC failure can have a couple of signs that you will notice. First, it might seem like your pedal never quits traveling down. Even sitting still, it might continue to travel. You might find yourself pumping the brake as you came to a stop. If you are pumping the brakes and all else is good.....then the MC is bad. Second, if the rear seal fails in the MC, the reservior on the brake MC would be low and going lower as escaping fluid goes from the MC and into the booster. You might even see a transcient stiff pedal as the booster intermittently fails from all the brake fluid within.

That's my definition.

Best Regards,
John M
