Should springs sit in rubber seats?
It appears my rear springs (I haven't looked at the fronts yet) sit directly in their position without rubber seats on either the top or bottom. Is that correct?

I believe that the rears have rubber on the top only. The fronts have rubber both top and bottom.

The rears have a shaped metal seat between the spring and the rubber, and originally had 18" of rubber tube slipped over a couple of coils at the bottom, which apparently served as a harmonic damper.

Thanks Jim & Alex,
I'll get under there tonite and check cause I get some "noise" back there and I think it might be suspension maxing out and the shortened springs just being "free" & suspended and then going back into position under rebound. Either that or I dropped a socket set somewhere in the trunk

Hmm ... to my mind that doesn't sound right. If your rear springs are doing that then you need to remove some length from the rebound straps, surely? I've also heard of people cutting a horizontal slot or two in the lower spring seat so that a large jubilee clip can be used to secure a particularly short spring in position, but that's the wrong way around the problem.

I can jack the rear section of the car up and then freely move the spring (somewhat) with my hand. This is not a good thing, correct? Wouldn't a correct length rebound strap prevent this?
