Need "heads up" on springs & shocks

I hit a "dipty doo" on the Thruway last weekend and heard a "screech" and proceeded to hear some "screeches" on subsequent dipty doos. This AM I bounced the rear bumper and I'm getting travel when previously it was quite firm. I'm also hearing a banging/clanging of metal hitting something in the back end Looking underneath, I don't see anything appearing loose or hanging but it appears the top of the drivers side coil spring isn't in the rubber retainer. Looks like it popped out while the car was at the top of the suspension travel. I will tonite take off both wheels to look around but does it make sense that the spring is causing the noise? I'll have to obviously check the shocks because the noise almost sounds as if one isn't attached.

Issue solved and fixed. Apparently the drivers side rear coil spring wasn't positioned correctly in it's seat after rebound. Jacked the car up, repositioned the spring and I'm back in business Maybe with performance/shortened springs, the rebound straps should be slightly shorter.
