Question about wheel click...

Hello, I've just bought my first Alfa. A really well kept 1984 GTV6.

See my new love at: http://alfabb.com/bb/forums/showthread.php?t=29688

I'm busy learning everything I possibly can and I've found this site to be awesomely helpful. There are just some questions that can only be answered by a voice (or keyboard) of experience.....

So when I pull and then push on the upper portion of my front wheels, there is a quiet, hollow sounding click or clunk. I don't hear any squeals or growls from he wheel bearings, but consider them to be the most likely suspects. Does anyone have experience with a similar clunk? Was it the first sign of a bad wheel bearing, or is it just something that GTV6 front wheels do?

Thanks!

-James

I suspect you are on the mark with your diagnosis. Wheel bearings are definitely a service item on the GTV-6 that gets used how it's supposed to.

Thanks for the confirmation, I was hoping it was a non-issue....but I suppose I'll just add 'wheel bearings' to the ever lengthening list of to-do's.

Is this a job that people do themselves? Anyone have thoughts on difficulty level or specialty tools that are required?

Thanks again!

just tighten the front bearings a bit. Listen to them really carefully. if there is any sound at all, means wear. be sure there's grease on the rollers.
