Question Brake Pad recommendations.

It's time to change the brake pads on my 1750 GTV. What recommendations on brake pads do you have? I use my car as a daily driver with the occasional (once or twice per year) club track event.

My preference would be less expensive and longer life over sheer eye bulging deceleration.

I've had very good luck with the Porterfield pads on my '74 GTV. They have a street/track pad that works well cold on the street but resists fade on the track. They worked very well for me a couple weeks ago at Road America. Hauled the GTV from about 105 down to 45 or so time after time.

I got mine at Performatek. Believe their web site is Performatek.com. I'm sure others will have other recommendations that will also meet your needs.

I've had good experiences with EBC Green Stuff kevlar pads. I'm pretty sure you can get those over there. They work well on track days with the only compromise being a slight lack of feel when stone cold (i.e. first push of the pedal) Wear is acceptable, dust is low as they have no metallic content and they aren't too expensive.

Hi,

ABout brake pads, just wondering if anyone has tried Marelli pads or the Ferodo metalic pads? I'm due to change mine soon too.

This is for a car i use daily.

I have Pagid Blue (RS4-2) on my 75 T and they are excellent, however they are maybe not the most comfortable pads since they tend to sqeal like crazy unless you push the pedal over about 80% of full. Very good performance after first varming braking dab, very good wear resistance! Two track-days and six month of hard street and they are still going strong. And I heard that the new yellow ones (RS19) are even better. They are a bit pricy though

Just ordered Ferodo DS2500 for the Delta. Very good recommendation from friends.
DS3000 are supposed to be a bit better but maybe oriented more towards the track.

The "original" type compound Ferodos I wore down in a day on the Alfetta... A track-day (6hrs) on R-Tires is extremely tough but I would have expected more...

From what I heard from friends the EBC Green stuff pads wears down really quick, especially on the heavier cars. Then again the Bertone isn't a heavy car.

I'm not sure all these compounds are available to you but this is my 2 cent...

I know alot of people that has ebc green stuff.
all of them say they work very well on street and track and thay create very little dust.

brake pads

International Auto Parts sells a really excellent pad listed in their catalog as Italian premium pads which are their "midgrade" pads when you get them they are actually Ferodo 3410 compound which for my money after 20yrs. or so are the best all-around pad for 105/115 series street or track! Also Ereminas sells a pad he swears by for practically nothing but someone should try or report on. Fred.

I decided on Mintex brake pads. So far I am very satisfied with them. I am still breaking them in and as yet have not slammed on them or overheated them, another week of relaxed driving and I will give them a true test.

What kind of braking-in procedure are you using? Did you get instructions with the pads?

The instructions said no brake-in period needed. However, I have decided to take it easy on the pads for the first 250 miles (400 Kilometers) try not to overheat them especially.

I have used Mintex pads in my 93 Spider for about 3 years and am very pleased with them. No fear in stopping and the lack of dust is an added plus!

My favorites have become the Porterfield R4S pads. No fade at all, requires very little heat and seem to last forever. The rotor wear is almost none. I have them on my 74GTV and 86 Spider.

New brake lining "grows" a little bit when it's heated up the first few times. Brake manufacturers "bake" them for a while, but some of the growth ends up being done on the vehicle. Worse on drums than discs, where the clearance is not so critical.

When breaking in the pads, you should actually make sure to heat them up, then pay attention to persistent smells and other symptoms that would indicate a brake that's not releasing enough. Never happened to me on a disc brake.

The last thing you want to do is to put new pads on a car just before going on the track.

I am very happy with the Ferrado DS2500 on my 1750 GTV. The cars has 5 test days and three races on them now with about 3/4 of the pad left. Great value for the price too. Try going direct to Essex in Atlanta they are the importer. I found them cheaper than Intl.
